Whee

I've got LOTS of work to take care of this weekend. So I think tonight I'm going to go out.

Yay for procrastination. And skee-ball. And air hockey.

I could totally use some mini-golf...

over dinner

So apparently, "everybody just wants to get me in their labs" makes a really good euphamism.

Three grad school interview "weekends" scheduled. At least one more pending... Seriously, when am I going to get my work done?

Blah...g

I've read my most recent posts and come to an astonishing conclusion:

I'm boring.

At least, I'm boring right now. Somehow I thought posting less frequently would distill the interesting stuff in my life down into some concentrated, awesome form. So rather than waste your time reading this grade-A vanilla yogurt, spend some time here, or here, or here, or here, or even the old standby.

I do have some good news. I've been invited to my first grad school interview! They offered to cover everything, including transportation. It seems, however, that they expect to reimburse me for mileage. That's rather tricky, seeing as how I'm suffering from a congenital lack of vehicular conveyance. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon with a Plan B that doesn't involve overnighting it... twice... on Amtrak. I wonder if I could convince a car rental place that I'm over 25...

Oh, and in case Mom still reads this... I got an official W2, which I will mail home tomorrow. There is no form for my summer stipend, so we are just expected to write it in, I suppose. I was right about the amount. Also expect proof of full-time student status. If there's anything else, shoot me an e-mail.

See? BORING!

Officially snowed in

No DC trip for me this year. I haven't attended the March for Life since high school, so it's dissapointing... but at the same time, I'm glad not to be driving long distances on questionable roads, and now I won't have to miss class. Plus I can get my reading done today.

Lofty goals... now, I'm going back to bed and sleeping in!

Lots of plans

The weather may prevent my intended trip to DC this weekend, but I've still got a trip to Michigan in February and another to Chicago in May... plus (hopefully) additional grad school interviews... It's my last semester and I'll be spending more time away than ever before! As exciting as it is to plan this stuff, I'm already going to miss one Cornerstones gig, and the probability of getting away for a Kairos retreat this year is slim to none, and slimming fast. I need more hours in the day, or more days in the week, or more semesters in a year...

ambivalence is annoying

Second semester senior year is confusing.

I feel like I should be overwhelmed already, but I'm understandably hesitant to rush things. My applications are submitted. My classes are mostly pinned down, although the workload has yet to kick in. I'm slowly getting back to all the usual activities. I've done this before... and yet, it's different somehow. I've never particularly liked change, so I was willing to chalk it up to the transition from home-hometown to home-college... that's not quite it, though.

Maybe it is still the specter of change, in the sense that I know it's coming and I'm going to be expected to uproot myself from this place and venture independently forth, after four years spent establishing myself and making friends and becoming comfortable. It doesn't help that my future is in a state of flux. Will I be in Germany next year? Will I be in a good grad program, and which one, on what side of the country? How much longer is my long-distance relationship going to be long-distance, and how is that transition going to work itself out?

Maybe I need my workload to kick in. I prefer the more concrete and accessable to keep my mind occupied. I won't have time to pine for home and boyfriend, or get myself worked up about my future. I have Neurobio tomorrow morning. I predict a distinct improvement. Goodnight!

It's been a while

Yikes! Only a week of break left and this is only my second entry. I suppose I've been pretty busy, working full-time and all, but I suspect that the computer isn't my main source of procrastination while I'm not at school. For one thing, my folks got a new tv, and satellite so there's stuff on. Plus I've seen Mike nearly every night since I got back, which has been fabulous. I've seen all of the movies I wanted to see over break:
  • Lemony Snicket was a bit dark but not trite about it. The soundtrack is quite good up until the final scene in which the kids pay a visit to their destroyed childhood home, which is accompanied by a score that is literally two notes off from "We Three Kings." It didn't help that epiphany was the previous week. The inventive credits sequence made up for it, though.
  • The Life Aquatic was actually not as funny as I expected it to be based on previews, but still a good use of my time. Another good soundtrack... one of the cast members basically sat around and covered Bowie the whole time... on acoustic guitar... in Portugese! The effects were inventive, but having seen Lemony Snicket in the previous week I was spoiled for it and thought it too campy. I appreciate Owen Wilson's good taste in roles. Which reminds me, I need to own The Royal Tenenbaums.
  • I've watched Anchorman on DVD twice already since purchasing it. I still think Will Ferrell's movies play more like sketch comedy than feature films, but I also still really like the guy, however irrationally. What can I say, I adore quirk.

Okay, that's long enough for today. The family is going over to our neighbor's house to watch the ball game, and tonight I have a reunion of sorts with some high school friends. Tomorrow is my cousin/goddaughter's second birthday party. Yay for fun weekends!
